Welcome to Utah, the land of alien landscapes, giant red arches, and dirt roads that lead to places so quiet you can hear your own knees cracking.

It’s an outdoor playground where you can hike through a narrow slot canyon in the morning, paddle through roaring sandstone gorges on the Green or Colorado River in the afternoon, and spend the evening trying to figure out if you're allowed to order a second beer without buying an entire three-course meal first.

Between towering sandstone monoliths, surreal salt flats where you can see the curvature of the earth, and hoodoos that look like giant stacks of orange pancakes, Utah is breathtakingly strange. Pack your dry bag, double your water intake, and prepare to spend half your trip wondering which sci-fi movie was filmed on the trail you're walking on.
